Really fun and time consuming!
My mom got this for me as a Christmas gift and I’m 11. I really liked that it came with everything that I needed and the experiments were fun and the instructions were easy to follow. I didn’t like that when you opened the Chemicals you couldn’t close them and they fell out. Other then that I really liked it.

My granddaughter loves it!
This was a gift for her 5th birthday and she loves it so far. It comes with all the materials necessary. The plus is that she can do a few at a time, so it should keep her interest for awhile.

Meh
I’m giving this a 4 star because my son LOVES this. He would give it 5 stars. He is 3 and could do everything and loved every second of this.I would give it 2 stars. And I think my 7 yr old would give it 2/3. It’s really stinking boring. It’s like acid base color changing lackluster. There aren’t as many experiments as I expected. There were 2 or 3 that were kinda cool. But still very underwhelming. I think the basic experiments I find on Pinterest are more fun!

Fun and educational
Fun and creative. Items were a little smaller than I expected, but it is a child’s box! I bought it for my 8 year old son. Some of the projects needed adult supervision. But some he was able to do by himself. Great learning experience, I thought!

our grandson loved this gift…he has completed several experiments and was very excited about the glow worms and glow tube. One con of this gift is that several of the components are used in multiple experiments and no bags are given to contain the left over product for the next time. It does require supervision for younger kids.

For 10 Year Old Grandson
Our 10 year old grandson has really enjoyed this. It was a Christmas gift. After reading other reviews, we made sure he knew the experiments are to be done in order to ensure he has enough ingredients to do them all. My daughter has told me several times how much it’s been enjoyed. He’s almost 111 and can do these experiments on his own.

My 5 year old granddaughter loves this kit. I would give this 5 stars, but I think they could step up their game with providing some basic follow up information about each of the experiments so kids could learn the why, how, etc…

This product allowed my little one to channel his inner “Bill Nye the Science Guy”! I do caution, however, can become a messy venture if left unsupervised! PSA – be on hand and close by to assist your child when they are using it!

Kind of cheap quality but maybe okay for a child…
When the box arrived, it was already opened. It appears to have everything but I am not sure as the parts included are scattered within. I can’t say the price matches the quality because it feels cheap. If my little nephew finds some temporary fun out of this, I suppose that’s good enough for me. However, I don’t think this is something I will buy again.

This was a hit! Our 6 yo had many sessions of experiments with this kit. I love an activity that offers more!! She made an eyeball and a few other super gross experiments and had a blast doing it. I recommend this and think it would work for a bunch of ages. Note: my 6 yo needed an adult helper to do these experiments.

Great Granddaughter loved this science kit
I got this for my great-granddaughter who just turned 9 years old. She stopped opening the rest of her presents after she opened this one. She also squealed with delight and ran to the kitchen table to get all the stuff out of the box. It was a hit, and I found out from her mom she has spent a lot of time doing the experiments. This was a win-win for her, and her mom, and me. She is always doing something and never sits still, but this got her attention and kept her busy for quite a while. If you have a child who likes science, they will love the kit.

Family fun!
This was a great gift! We worked on this as a family. Luckily, we had an extra pair of “science” goggles because it only came with one pair. One word of advice is if you plan to do the whole kit in one sitting, make sure you have enough time. Some things need to be frozen, warmed up and/or cooled down. It’s ooey-gooey fun!

Great gift
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my grandson who is 6 years old but is super smart so the age suggestion of 8+ was just right for him. There are a lot of experiments to do and we are working through them when I visit. One thing I noticed is that some activities require multiple days to complete (for example, the volcano, and crystal growing). Since we promised to do an activity each time I visit, some of these will end up being completed without me 🙁

Fun experiments for the science lover!
The media could not be loaded.
I bought this for my nine-year-old daughter. She loves science and loves doing experiments and crafts. The box has a lot of different experiments you can do. It explains it all very well along and teaches why the reactions are happening in the little booklet. Most of them she is able to do by herself, but some of them I have had to help her with. Some of the experiments can be quite messy, but there is a glove provided and goggles for your child to wear. I would just recommend putting down some plastic or newspaper before you start your projects. Some of the experiments you will simply throw away afterwards like the changing colored liquids. But some of them you get to keep like the homemade bouncy ball.

Perfect gift!
Bought for my nephews birthday 🎂 it was a great gift. The age range definitely varies because as long as a parent is present for the younger kids it’s perfect. It’s so much fun! Some are a little messy but nothing very bad. It’s a great activity for older kids to do alone or the younger with parental guidance. The difficulty levels are at a good level.vwe want our kids to use those wonderful brains. This gift is just an amazing idea to get children interested in the sciences. The directions are wonderful and my young nephew loved doing it with his parents. Excellent family time.

Grandkids enjoyed it, some experiments were less than spectacular.
Bought this as a gift for my grandson (5), and he was thrilled. We did some of the experiments outside on the back patio the other day, and all the grandkids participated. The chemicals included in the “Stunning Science” kits are fairly innocuous, but if you have more than one child present, get safety googles for each. It’s never too early to encourage kids to be conscious of safety.I rated this set as 4 stars because the kids enjoyed the experiments. But don’t expect multi-colored explosions of the sort that are pictured on the box. The experiments are much more tame than that.I thought the worst part of the kit was the volcano mold, which requires assembly. There are three “wall” parts, a base, and a rubber band that is somehow supposed to hold it all together. The three “wall” parts don’t actually snap together so there are substantial openings where the walls meet but don’t clamp together. If your plaster is at all runny, it will leak right back out, so be sure to follow the instructions closely. The chemicals come in small sealed foil packets. Once they are opened, you can’t easily reseal them. Have some small resealable baggies to put the packets in if you don’t use up everything so you have them properly labeled.I think getting a plastic tray, foil baking pan, or something similar will contain the mess better than the cardboard tray included in the kit.You can buy citric acid and baking soda at the grocery store if you use up what you received in the kits and the kids still want to repeat some experiments like the rocket ones.I think this kit is good for stimulating young kids interest in science. Older kids will need a little more variety in experiments.

Wonderful set
We bought this as part of our family mad scientist Halloween costume. This set is awesome! It has tons of experiments and the ingredients and tools you need to do each. All of the experiments worked as expected. They were so much fun and easy for me and my 5 year old to do. I even did some with my prek class and some for my son’s class. We still have ingredients left and are still enjoying the set. We will definitely be purchasing more National Geographic science kits in the future. And bonus that the purchase goes to help the Nat Geo foundation.

Fun, educational, messy and worth every penny
I have bought several science kits over the years and this by far is the best. Here’s some of my favorite parts about this kit:1. Sturdy box with compartments to help organize all the stuff inside2. Two books included, one with detailed photo instructions for the experiments that are done from the box, sans another book with experiment ideas with items from around your house. The books also go into detail about the chemical reactions with the way they do.3. Everything you need to do the experiments is included in the box: bowls, cups, stir sticks, measuring spoons and beakers, powders, dyes, etc. No more messing up spoons and bowls from your own cabinets.4. This is probably not important to most people but I find it to be awesome. They included tiny ziplock bags for storing the powders after you open them, and labels for your creations.5. The experiments were easy, and turned out great every time.My son spent hours working on experiments and still has lots of experiments left to do! This is a great set and worth every penny. It would make a great gift for any kid. I will definitely be buying more kits like this one from National Geographic. This one really lived up to their brand!

Pretty basic
Another reviewer observed that most of the experiments included in the kit are acid/base reactions, and they weren’t kidding. Not only that, but some of the “separate” experiments are really just extensions of prior experiments. For instance, using a pH indicator to turn red in presence of an acid, using that same indicator to turn blue in presence of a base, and mixing the two together to form a foaming purple are counted as three separate experiments in the booklet. Only a couple of the experiments yield something you can keep: the crystal tree, the bouncy ball – which, in my opinion, has a pretty sparse explanation of the science – and the “worms”. (Making plain worms and glowing worms are considered two separate experiments.)There is a booklet of much more variable extra experiments, but this is the exact same booklet you get in the Science Magic Kit (and, I assume, all the other kits that proclaim the inclusion of an extra booklet of experiments).I appreciate supporting the National Geographic Society, and the whole thing is packaged nicely with good instructions and everything you need for the main set of experiments; but I was disappointed with the lack of variety, the lack of much in-depth science, the lack of durable products from the experiments. If you’re trying to decide between kits, go with the science magic one instead; it’s got a lot more variety and a lot less acid/base repetitiveness. A couple of experiments are repeated between the two kits – for example, the secret message on pH paper, and the blue/red/purple acid/base thing described above – but there’s less repetition in the science magic kit.
