Not Sure What the Hype is About

Bought this because it was at the top of a bunch of lists. It’s fine, but nothing special, and smaller than I was expecting,

Great quality but not travel size

Just received my umbrella and like it quite a lot. It seems very sturdy, and being windproof appears to be a realistic selling point. The only thing that is remarkable is that the title states that it is a “travel” umbrella, which is what I was looking for. In my mind, a travel umbrella is smaller and more easily packable. This umbrella is pretty heavy comparatively speaking to the standard umbrella and it is much bigger than I expected. Anyone looking for something small & lightweight should consider something else. I’m going to keep this umbrella for day to day use (I live in a rainy climate some months of the year) but I’m going to purchase something else for my travel needs.

Stands up to the rain, but difficult to close

It’s a sturdy umbrella, a little on the thick side, when folded up, but works well. The only issue is closing it – it’s difficult to close, and if you have issues with your hands, like arthritis or an injury, you may not prefer this umbrella.

    Repel Umbrellas – Just Right

We needed new umbrellas that could not so easily get saturated by rain, withstand wind gusts, and be of reasonable quality for the price. I came across the Repel Umbrellas, read the reviews, and direct information from the manufacturer. I decided to give them a try. We received them the day before a week of rain and they do as described. These umbrellas are well worth their asking price and investing into. At first, it seemed like “short” umbrella with the cover span smaller than others I have used, but it made sense based in the design it’s to serve: compact & convienent. It is on a heavier side of compact umbrellas, but when you open it up, you see quality. It may seem a little bit bulky, but its nothing any cannot handle. It can still fit in a traditional glovebox or outside pocket if a backpack. The shaft are multiple sections unlike tatditional two section versions that extend and collapse from and into each other when opened or closed. The two layer canopy (to fight against wind) is supported by strong metal and fiberglass ribs. To close the unit, you depress the down arrow for the canopy to collapse. You then push the top of the umbrella down to the handle hearing a solid click knowing it is secured. The canopy repels rain pretty well where you can shake rain droplets off as you allow it to dry.I bought the two pack bundle, an all black unit and a red/black combo for my spouse. This is an umbrella we won’t go anywhere without. I definitely would recommend to take a look at these umbrellas.

    Durability not so good

Purchased umbrella for a trip. During trip the umbrella was used for light rain and sun protection. In the 3rd of usage I noticed the little nub came off with no idea where it popped off. Durability of product seems very low since it was only used for 3 days beforesomething came apart.Updated review 7/26/24I contacted the company and they said they will get me a replacement umbrella. Good customer service. I just hope the next one is more durable.

    Outstanding Customer Service!!

I originally purchased the Repel Windproof Travel Umbrella in December and was impressed by the quality. By the following June, the mechanism that keeps the canopy open had broken. I contacted customer service at Upper Echelon Products. I received a prompt, courteous, and apologetic response and was told that the umbrella should not have broken and that a replacement umbrella would be shipped to me free of charge. My new umbrella arrived the very next day!! I am now also highly impressed by their outstanding customer service!!

    Great Umbrella, Case too small

This is a great umbrella, however the case on this particular one is too small. It was difficult to remove and impossible to put back on. However I order the all black umbrella for my husband and that case fits fine. It is wider. If the black and red umbrella had a wider case, I would give it 5 *

    Love- I bought two!

I bought this on a review/recommendation for our trip to Ireland. I liked that it was compact, strong, durable and windproof. I have no complaints, I even bought a 2nd one for my car. My only problem is I keep misplacing them somewhere?! I will probably buy 1-2 more b/c I like them so much. I also like the ones from Target.

Destroyed during crazy windstorm, but warranty came through!

I bought this umbrella because of its “windproof” claims, and it worked excellent for the first month or so; large canopy, easy to deploy, very compact when closed.During a storm with very high winds, some of the umbrella’s ribs were bent out of shape and prevented the umbrella from closing properly. Remembering the warranty card that the umbrella came with in the box, I called Repel and they replaced it with an identical model in two days, no questions asked. Excellent service, and the new umbrella is still going strong!

Good quality, but bulkier and heavier than expected

It holds up in the wind, which is a big plus. I was surprised by the size: it is bulky and heavier than other umbrellas I carry around in case of rain. To put it simply, this is the umbrella I am going to grab on my way out when it is raining or I know it is going to rain for sure. Otherwise, I don’t feel like carrying it around all day. Not purse sized. I need a backpack or tote. Also, too small to share with someone.

    Great, sturdy umbrella

This is my 2nd purchase of this same umbrella. (One of my kids snagged the first one 😜). This is a great quality umbrella and is a lot more sturdy than others at the same price. This one holds its shape in the Texas windy rain and the auto up/down button works smoothly. Love it! ☂️

Not indestructible, but they stand by the lifetime warranty

I bought this umbrella in April 2019. I’m now on my 3rd replacement (so my 4th umbrella). I mainly use it when walking my dog when it’s drizzling. She won’t go out in heavy rain, so the umbrella really doesn’t get much wind or heavy use. I also usually store it by hanging it from the wrist strap, so it’s not getting buried or stepped on.Somehow, though, I’ve had several problems: Once, it stuck in the closed position and become impossible to open. Another time, the ribs just disconnected without being taken in wind or blowing inside out. Most recently, only 9 months since my last replacement, the button will shoot the canopy forward but won’t open it. It won’t even stay open if I manually push the runner up the shaft. The other two things I don’t like about it are the tiny handle. It’s difficult to grip for long periods of time, so I often end up holding it by the narrow shaft instead. Also, it’s just a little too short for me, and the canopy often rubs against the top of my head if I hold my arm at a comfortable height. I know it’s supposed to be compact, but add maybe 4 inches total between a longer handle and shaft, and it would be perfect. But even with this thing randomly dying on me about once per year, I have to give it a good rating for the warranty. The last two times I’ve emailed support, I’ve expected them to tell me there’s a limit on replacements and that the warranty only applies to the original umbrella. But they’ve proven me wrong every time! Each time a replacement breaks, I send an email, they ask for my address and photos of what broke to help improve the product, and I get a new umbrella in the mail about a week or so later.I keep wanting to try a different umbrella that is taller and has a better handle, but Repel just keeps sending me replacements. I wish it were more bulletproof and lasted 5+ years before having issues, but it’s good enough as long as they continue to stand by the lifetime warranty.

NOT a LARGE or GOLF umbrella, but it is nice.

I am dismayed horribly by the size. I needed a full size LARGE GOLF UMBRELLA. This is standard size, maaaaaybe slightly bigger. It can’t cover me and my two kids like a golf umbrella could. So I walk in the rain while the kids use it. Buuuuut it does look really nice and has been strong in the Chicago winds so far.Make sure you read the closing instructions. You’re supposed to crush the top towards the bottom after the button collapses, not pull anything on the umbrella’s inside. It’s taking a lot of habit breaking. But it seems like it is going to extend the life of the umbrella. The one with the red inside is my fave. Get a lot of compliments on it.The ribs tend to snap my hairs and pluck them from my head much akin to leaning back on a wicker chair. Tame those manes in the high winds!

    the wind will grab it

The wind plays with this umbrella, as it does with all of them. I got it for travel but finally left it home. Decided on a lighter weight rain jacket instead, because I don’t have to fight the wind to keep a jacket from blowing away.

    Different colors are different construction

I ordered two of these umbrellas in different colors. A light blue one was designed as in the description, with a double canopy that will allow strong wind gusts to go through rather than turn the canopy inside-out. The Red and black one seems to be made of two separate canopies together, with no relief from wind gusts. It does seem well made, but it’s VERY difficult to get back in the bag because it’s much thicker than the blue one. It’s also a couple of ounces heavier. Since I bought these for travel umbrellas, I returned the black/red one, as I could see myself giving up on trying to stuff it back in the bag when traveling. The dark blue one I replaced it with is fine…has a double canopy with wind relief, and easily fits back in the storage bag. I haven’t really tested these out, but they seem very well made and I expect they’ll last. I notice if you click on the different colors, the description changes slightly, but it’s not easily noticed so I wanted to alert folks who want a compact umbrella the the red/black one is heavier and does not have the same features.

    what a great umbrella!

Having just moved to the Big Apple in the heart of the East Village I experienced a wondrous new force of nature called rain. We didn’t have too much in the desert wasteland of Southern California. My first few days of wind and rain wreaked havoc on my puny little pocket umbrella and I certainly wasn’t going to carry the mammoth golf umbrella that lives in my car because well that’s how one gets yelled at in the aforementioned Big Apple. So I started doing research on umbrellas. What a rabbit hole that was. Anyway I ended up with this one, chosen because it resembled Dracula’s cape (setting a tone for would be muggers – he don’t mess with me I just might be a vampire). It is a great great umbrella – very strong and well designed to vent wind and not flip inside out like in the funny papers. It’s compact enough to not get me killed and but large enough when opened to cover me and all the bags of groceries I’m walking the mean streets with. I liked it so much I ordered a second one but with stars on the inside (my, god, it’s full of starts) so I kind of feel like Dave in 2001 as he’s going into the monolith. In fact sometimes I hear Thus Spake Zarathustra when I’m using it.

Great umbrella. Opens easily with a push of the button on the handle. Fits into a large bag or a tote. And will hold up to significant wind. It got me through several blocks walking in a hurricane without collapsing from the wind.It is difficult to fully close. I don’t know if that has something to do with its wind strength, but it’s still my favorite umbrella.

Great umbrella, works very well in the wind and rain. Great customer service!

The umbrellas are very well made, and stylish too, depending on what style you order. The size is perfect for traveling as it folds up nicely and fits in our cross body bags. They have an automatic opening and closing button, which is a nice feature. One little quirk – when you click on the “Close” button on the handle, the umbrella snaps shut so you can manually retract it and tie the velcro cord around it. However, the only way to open it back up is to full retract it to the closed position, then hit the “Open” button. If you just click on the “Close’ button, the umbrella retracts but it’s still in the extended position. In this position, you cannot open it back up without fully locking it in the closed position (hope I explained this ok). Other than that, it performed great in the wind and rain. We used them on our recent vacation off and on for 4-6 weeks, and never had a problem. One rainy day, I was using my umbrella and slipped on the wet pavement. I dropped the umbrella and my hand or arm must have fallen on it, and one of the spines broke. It was still usable though. I happened to receive an email asking how I liked the umbrella, and in the email I noticed that it had a lifetime guarantee, so I told them what happened to the umbrella when I fell. I received an immediate response from Rebecca in their umbrella support team, who said she would replace the umbrella immediately. Within a week, I received a replacement umbrella. So not only do they have a great product, but their customer service support is fantastic. I would recommend this product and this company to anyone!

    AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE

I just want to say the customer service for this company is amazing. It has been exactly 3years since I first purchased this umbrella. Throughout that time, it worked flawlessly and kept me dry even in the most heaviest rain storms. Unfortunately, a few days ago the closing mechanism clonked out and the umbrella would not close. I reached out to the customer service team that same day, and given the lifetime warranty, they sent me a new replacement within a few days without any hassle. The service was seamless and I highly recommend this product from both a quality standpoint and a customer service standpoint.

    Sturdy thing

The umbrella body itself is quite sturdy with its reinforcements.Dries relatively quicker than standard umbrellas due to its Teflon coat, but I think that would wear off over time. I intend to keep it maintained with some off the shelf water repellent sprays.I dropped it by 1 star due to not knowing that the main umbrella staff is greased and lubricated. So I got my hands covered in weird umbrella grease. But it’s probably there for a reason. Just hope they will add a note that informs others that their umbrella’s telescopic pole is greased

Support was quick to issue a replacement umbrella instantly right after it malfunctioned 2 years into the purchase. It only took 2 days to get to my house! This umbrella is awesome and is possibly the best umbrella I have used. The multiple spines and rigidness of the umbrella ensures that the wind doesn’t bend it at all.

Difficult to close but fine otherwise

Not sure if it’s just the umbrella that we received, but closing the umbrella is difficult for me. I have to really push down on it to get it to click back into place, it takes me a couple tries to do that. Very sturdy, and a bit heavy

I purchased this in hopes it will withstand some of the winds we’ve been getting with our rainstorms. So far, so good. Because it is so sturdy, it is a bit heavy but I keep it in the pocket of my backpack so it’s not a great challenge. It is a large size umbrella so that adds to the weight a bit, too.
