The Original Slinky Walking Spring Toy
There’s only one Original Slinky Brand! Celebrate 75 years of wiggly-jiggly fun with Slinky! Generations of children and adults have loved playing with Slinky. This classic metal spring toy walks downstairs, alone or in pairs, and makes a slink-ity sound. First invented by mechanical engineer Richard James in 1943 during an experiment with tension coils. James accidentally dropped a spring on the floor and watched as it began to “walk.” Two years later, he introduced his walking spring toy in Gimbels Department Store during Christmas, and the Slinky immediately sold out. Since its debut, over 300 million Slinkys have been sold worldwide. In 2000, this classic toy was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame. Slinky is proudly made in America and continues to be a favorite toy of children and adults all over the world. Slinky is fun for a girl or a boy and makes an ideal gift, stocking stuffer, prize, or present. Everyone loves a Slinky! Ages 5+

slinky
What can I say, it is a slinky. It arrived fine but is much smaller than I expected and what most slinkys were years ago. It wouldn’t do the stair decend like the old ones always did.

Slinky works to keep squirrels off of the posts !
These Slinky springs are perfect for putting on your bird feeder Shepard’s Hook Post bird feeder.See the photo –squirrels will NOT climb this post as the Slinky is sharp on their grubby little paws, and it moves with their movements. It spooks ’em ! I had one for 5 months, and I just ordered 2 more after the “test run” ! This really works.

The original slinky
I purchased this for my 11 year old grandson who saw it online and was SO excited to try it. LOL. Low tech, no batteries, old school fun. He’s been playing with it for weeks. Eventually it will probably get ‘sprung’ as it goes with slinkys -but for now, he has been loving it. Having said all of this, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. All of my reviews reflect my honest, personal experience with the reviewed item – your experience may be different. I am not influenced by any outside source. I receive/accept NO free products or discounts that are not available to all shoppers- ever. I am a verified purchaser – not a compensated reviewer. I have been doing honest, trustworthy reviews for well over 25 years with Amazon – posting thousands and thousands of reviews – which have been viewed over 8.2 million times to date. I am NOT a fake reviewer. BOTTOM LINE: I pay for ALL my stuff, just like you do – with hard earned dollars!

It’s a Slinky… What Else is There to Know?
It’s a Slinky… What else is there to know? It’s perfectly great as a slinky toy. I like that it’s metal like the ones I played with when I was a little girl. I gave it 5 Stars all the way for its “intended purpose” as a toy. What I’m about to say has no bearing on my review but I thought I’d share a little added info about the Slinky’s alternative use as a critter / squirrel deterrent since I thought there may be others who have decided to purchase a Slinky for that same reason I did. Let me just say it was a TOTAL FAILURE and total waste of money as a squirrel deterrent and I’m glad I put out only one of the two Slinkies I bought. Don’t waste your money if you are expecting to use it to keep the squirrels away from your bird feeder. Mine worked the first day. In fact, I took pleasure witnessing a squirrel trying to climb up my feeder pole and he immediately took that elevator ride straight down to the ground floor and ran away. I thought to myself, “Yay, this is going to work!!”. 😀 HOWEVER, it did not take long for the squirrels to stop being afraid of it and they started climbing it anyway. Also, I’m not so sure that raccoons weren’t climbing up the pole at night because the Slinky became extremely stretched out so much so I think something really heavy was climbing. Either way, it was destroyed in less than a week. : ‘-( I haven’t removed it yet and the squirrels just ignore it and climb straight up the pole and hang upside down on my “squirrel proof” bird feeder for their daily buffet. So to summarize…. it works great for its intended purpose as a toy but a total failure as a critter deterrent at the bird feeder. I gave 5 STARS for being a toy!

Bigger than Expected, but Works
This was bigger than I expected (I did not read the size in the description, so I assumed it was the size of the slinkys I would use as a child. Otherwise it seemed perfect. It works as a slinky, and had no defects. I think it was a good value for the cost.

slinky always great
growing up with playing with slinky had to purchase a few and gave one to my grandson to show him how to let the slinky walk down th steps ha ha ha ..they good for all ages but i say age from 4+ my opinion though not babies because if they’re not being watched they might think its a teether or just put in their mouth and also slinky’s are good always keeping squirrels! away from bird feeders! just either strap or hang and stretch the slinky and squirrels hate it ha ha ha ….

squirrel deterrent
i purchased this to put over the pole that holds the bird feeders. Before the slinky, they were sometimes able to scale the pole up to the bird feeder. Since I attached the slinky over the pole, then are unable to climb or if they jump higher up on the pole, then have a nice ride down the pole as it stretches, fun to watch. They have given up on trying, I am sure a new squirrel will try with the same funny results

Smaller than it used to be.
It’s the same quality metal that I (Gen X) grew up with, so it has the weight to Slink down steps… but it’s smaller than they used to be, so each of its “steps” is smaller than standard stairs. You have to build steps out of books or something for it to Slink down. So that was a little disappointing. If you just love the feel of the classic heavy slinky going back and forth between your hands, it’s perfect for that. The feel & sound are so nostalgic. Worth the price even in smaller size. Just don’t expect it to walk down stairs.

Brought back memories
I bought this on a whim after seeing someone messing around with one one you tube. Brought back memories of a time in the late sixties when I had one. It was fun, but the novelty wore off quickly. And the second time around it did as well, but there was something about the fact that such a simple device could reach out and connect with me 50+ years later that made me want to experience, or try to, the thrill of it again. The fact that it’s just a few dollars didn’t hurt either. My er next is one of those small gyros that was so popular back then as well.

great squirrel baffle
I was having trouble with squirrels on my bird feeder. A relative recommended putting a slinky around the center post and it has been 100% effective. It’s only been a month, but so far no rusting. Great off-label use. Does not seem to bother the birds.

Squirrel entertainment
Seen people using this to keep the squirrels off there bird feeders. Thought it would be a great entertainment for my husband while he’s recovering from his open heart bypass surgery. Works great for a while but after so long it tends to stretch out and not bounce back. But at least he was totally bored while stuck inside recovering.

Actually Purchased Two Three Packs Again
I purchased one of these and then decided to purchase (3) three more to give to a few young children. They totally loved them so much and wondered where I purchased them as they did not grow up with slinky’s like us seniors did many years ago. Now I purchased two more (3) packs because they were needed to put by my bird feeders to keep the squirrels away. They are working like a charm. I even put one across our railing with tie wraps, to keep the squirrels from jumping up. Seems like we have a Houdini Squirel who can get into the most craziest positions just to eat the bird seed.

Almost as good as the old school
Definitely a good substitute for the original slinky I remember as a kid, if only it was a little heavier and thicker. It does preform exactly as it should. It’s lasted a good while, and has given the whole family some fun to set up different sized “steps” for it to go down. It’s as big as a standard size slinky, just like the original, beware of getting your skin or arm hair caught in between. True silver color that’s not a painted mess.

Bought this to keep the squirrels away from my bird feeder. Works great! Haven’t seen a squirrel on the feeder since I started using it. Don’t worry though, the squirrels are still being fed. They eat the seeds that the birds drop which is plenty.
